MONTH OF SAFAR

Safar is the second month of the Islamic lunar calendar. In pre-Islamic times, Arabs considered it a deeply unlucky and cursed month, associating it with plagues, venomous creatures, and severe misfortune. People avoided getting married, traveling, or starting businesses during this time out of fear of drawing disaster. However, Islamic teachings strictly reject all superstitions regarding the month of Safar. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ explicitly refuted these beliefs, stating, "There is no 'Adwā (contagion without Allah's leave), no ṭīrah (bad omen), no hammah, nor any bad omen in the month of Safar". The Prophet taught that: All time belongs to Allah: No single month, day, or time inherently brings bad luck or misfortune. Historical precedent: Significant milestones occurred in Safar. For example, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ arranged the marriage of his daughter, Fatimah, to Ali bin Abi Talib during this very month. Trust (Tawakkul): Believing in bad omens or curses contradicts having complete faith and reliance on Allah's decree. instead of a month of calamity, Safar is simply a time like any other, meant for worship, reflection, and going about normal life.
