PRAYER PERFORMED 5 TIMES A DAY

Solat (or salah) is the ritual prayer performed obligatory 5 times a day by adult Muslims and forms the second pillar of Islam. The 5 Daily Prayers & Units (Raka'ah) : • Fajr (Dawn): 2 raakats — performed before sunrise. • Dhuhr / Zuhr (Midday): 4 rakaats — performed after the sun passes its peak. • Asr (Late afternoon): 4 rakaats— performed in the late afternoon. • Maghrib (Sunset): 3 rakaats — performed immediately after sunset. • Isha (Night): 4 rakaats — performed from twilight/darkness through the night. Core Requirements & Process: • Purity (Wudu): Requires ritual washing of specific body parts (hands, face, arms, feet) before starting. • Direction (Qibla): Must face the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca. • Actions: Combines standing, bowing (Ruku), and prostrating (Sujud) with specific verbal recitations. Purpose & Significance: • Spiritual Reset: Acts as regular touchpoints with God (Allah) to anchor and pace the day. • Purification: Likened in tradition to washing in a running river 5 times daily, cleansing minor errors and sins. • Deterrence: Encourages mindfulness and helps deter indecency or wrongdoing.
