SHAUR RAMADHAN
Sahur (the pre-dawn meal) is crucial for a healthy, energized, and productive Ramadan, offering both physical and spiritual blessings. It prevents dehydration, stabilizes blood sugar, reduces hunger and fatigue during the day, and improves concentration.
Eating Sahur is a Sunnah that provides sustained energy and helps maintain a good mood.
Key Health Benefits of Sahur:
Sustained Energy & Reduced Fatigue:
A balanced Sahur (complex carbs, proteins, fiber) provides long-lasting energy, preventing lethargy, weakness, and headaches.
Hydration:
Drinking enough water during Sahur is vital to prevent dehydration throughout the fasting day.
Metabolism & Weight Management: It keeps the metabolic rate stable and reduces cravings, preventing excessive hunger that can lead to overeating at iftar.
Blood Sugar Stability:
Prevents hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which can cause dizziness, weakness, and difficulty concentrating.
Improved Concentration:
Helps maintain cognitive function, reducing brain fog, especially for children or those working.
Spiritual Benefits:
Blessing (Barakah):
Sahur is considered a blessed meal and a reward-gaining act.
Supplication Time:
It allows for extra time to make du'a (supplication), remember Allah, and seek forgiveness in the blessed, pre-dawn hours.
Tips for a Healthy Sahur:
Focus on Nutrient-Dense Foods: Include complex carbohydrates (oats, whole wheat), protein (eggs, dairy), and fiber.
Hydrate Well:
Drink sufficient water, but avoid excessively salty or sugary foods that increase thirst.
Time it Right:
Consume the meal close to the dawn call for prayer (Imsak) for maximum energy duration.
For better energy levels and to avoid, or minimize, fatigue, headache, or dizziness during the day, it is crucial to avoid skipping this meal.
