TAYAMMUM ( DRY ABLUTION)
Tayammum (dry ablution) is an alternative method of ritual purification in Islam.
It is performed using clean soil, sand, or stone instead of water to prepare for prayers or other acts of worship when water is unavailable or cannot be safely used.
When is it Permitted? You can perform Tayammum in specific circumstances where using water is impossible or causes significant hardship:
Lack of water:
You are traveling or in an area with absolutely no access to clean water.
Illness or injury:
Using water would worsen an illness, delay healing, or cause extreme physical pain.
Extreme cold:
There is no way to heat the water, and using freezing water poses a risk to your health.
Safety/Time constraints:
Water is so scarce that you need it strictly for drinking or survival, or looking for water will cause you to miss the time for a prayer.
How to Perform TayammumThe process is symbolic and does not require washing, but rather a purposeful wiping.
Intention (Niyyah):
Make the conscious intention in your heart to purify yourself for worship in order to perform Tayammum.
Mention Allah:
Say Bismillah.
Strike the Earth:
Lightly strike or press both palms onto a clean, natural earth surface (e.g., soil, sand, rock, or a dusty wall).
Remove Excess:
Tap or blow on your hands to remove excess dust so it does not irritate your skin.
Wipe the Face:
Wipe your entire face once using both of your palms.
Wipe the Hands:
Strike the ground once more. Wipe the back of your right hand using the palm of your left hand, and vice versa. Then, rub both palms together.
What Nullifies It?
Tayammum becomes void and must be repeated or replaced in the following situations:
Water becomes available:
If you find water or gain the ability to use it, Tayammum is broken, and you must perform regular ablution (Wudu or Ghusl).
Standard nullifiers:
Anything that breaks normal Wudu (e.g., sleeping, using the restroom, passing wind) also breaks Tayammum.
End of the valid excuse:
Once your illness, travel, or emergency ends, the validity of Tayammum expires.
