FASTING ON MANDAYS AND THURSDAYS BONIFITS
Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays (Sawm al-Ithnayn wa al-Khamīs) is a recommended voluntary (Sunnah) practice in Islam that offers deep spiritual, social, and physical benefits.
Spiritual and Religious Benefits
• Presentation of Deeds: Prophet Muhammad SAW loved to be fasting when his good and bad actions were presented to Allah, which happens every Monday and Thursday.
• Following the Sunnah: Observing these fasts follows the direct example and habit of Prophet Muhammad, who rarely missed them.
• Day of Significance: The Prophet noted that Monday is the day he was born, the day he received his first revelation, and the day the Quran began to be revealed.
• Forgiveness of Sins: The doors of Paradise open on these days, and believers are forgiven—except for those who hold malice or enmity toward their brothers and sisters until they make peace.
• Protection and Reward: Fasting acts as a spiritual shield, earns multi-fold rewards, and contributes to entering Paradise through a special gate named Ar-Rayyan.
• Accepted Supplication: The prayer (dua) of a fasting person holds a high chance of acceptance right up until they break the fast.
Physical and Health Benefits
• Metabolic Reset: Operating as a routine form of weekly intermittent fasting, it helps reset metabolism and optimize energy levels.
• Improved Health Markers: Regular voluntary fasting can improve insulin sensitivity, assist with weight management, and support heart and digestive health.
• Cellular Repair: It can encourage natural bodily processes like autophagy (cellular cleanup).
Character and Personal Benefits
• Self-Discipline: Abstaining from food and drink builds patience, self-control, and resilience against daily impulses.
• Mindfulness: It encourages guarding one's speech, avoiding gossip, backbiting, or idle talk, and increasing acts of charity and kindness.
Wallahualam.
