Music in stroke therapy:

Music in stroke therapy:

For the past 15 years as caregiver to my stroke wife ( She paralyses one side of the body ). Besides used medical advise from our doctor. I also try alternative treatment through Islamic approach that is more focus to regain my wife spiritual and moral to be back as normal person.

This holistic treatment is try to impose my wife spiritual tough that, the pain and sorrow that she faces are the given by Allah to her, so that she can be wash all the sin what has been done before. By remembering back to Lorg Allah the person concern should to the good things and leaving or avoid to do the back thing in his  daily activity.

Thus the believer of Islamic tough and faith is to get the objectives of how to be a person that is pleasant to the Lord Allah. To be such person who always obey the law and order of Allah, we must get the truth and teach of Islam by reciting Quran and try to understand the meaning of the Arabic verses of Quran so that we can practices all the guideline given in our daily life.

True my experienced of taking care my stroke wife, it seem that by reciting Quran everyday she manage to gain faster healing process for recovery of speech and to regain her confidence. At first I asked my wife to recite Quran just to make her more fluent in reading Quran, and by hoping that the habit of reading Quran able to ease her to gain healing of talking and also to fulfill her ample free time.

At first she is not to fluent of reading Quran, to assist this problem, I bought a “Pen Read Quran” that can read the Quran by touching the pen to the Quran and then the pen will recite the Quran. By doing this for a few times it seem my wife able to speed up her recite and more capable to recite verses of Quran. By helped on this Pen Read is can recite better and make her very keen to continue reading and she did that every day.

After a year I found that healing process of her speech is better and a lot of improvement. When come to the third year she able to be recover completely her speech and the healing achievement come to 100% recovery and she able to gain back her speech as before. Alhamdulillah. Thanks God.
From what I am practicing it seem that the sound of reading Quran verses can be a tools to heal the stroke patient/ It seem that the habit of recite Quran and hearing the reading sound of Quran can be a supplement to the brain and all hearing system in our body, thus from my experience of taking care my wife nearly 15 years now I am confident the Quran as been told by our Prophet Muhammad SAW that can be a healing to all kind of sickness.

Unfortunately I read this article from one of the  website It now confirm that the sound of Quran reciting or the music can be a healing process for stroke patient and it is one of the way as rehabilitative therapy for stroke recovery. Please refer to the finding below:

“Normally, when people think of stroke rehabilitation, we think of physical therapy and exercises to strengthen weak arms and legs. But, often, rehabilitative therapy after a stroke involves more than just physically working the muscles that have been impaired by a stroke.
Different tools, such as computers, can be useful throughout the process of stroke rehabilitation. New research is finding that music is one of the useful tools for enhancing stroke survivors' physical and cognitive recovery.
Music therapy in stroke rehabilitation involves using music as an aid for the recovery of motor and thinking functions. Several research studies over the years have shown promising results with the  use of music after a stoke. There are a number of different ways that music is used to help in stroke recovery.
Music relaxation
Music in stroke therapy can be used for enjoyment and relaxation in between physically challenging exercise sessions. The effect of music on the brain may stimulate changes that contribute to healing and recovery. Scheduled sessions that incorporate listening to music, particularly classical music, can be used as a supplementary tool in rehabilitation.
Interestingly, a stroke survivor's hearing does not have to be perfect to be able to detect some beneficial qualities of musical sounds, so that even hearing impaired stroke survivors can benefit from music for relaxation as a part of the stroke recovery regimen.
Music with rehabilitation
Music has been used in conjunction with physical exercises or cognitive exercises to optimize function.
Music may work to improve healing after a stroke by rebuilding damaged connections or building new connections between different areas of the brain for improved recovery. Music can help with pacing, with coordination of muscles and with concentration and focus during therapy sessions.
Music as an active skill
Some stroke survivors benefit from actively making music by playing an instrument or by singing.
The active production of music requires the coordination between many parts of the brain and can help in building memory and motor function.
Music and mood
Music has a powerful effect on mood for many people. Various musical pieces can elicit pleasant or unpleasant emotions, generally rooted in life memories. The response of mood to music may be conscious or subconscious. Music that evokes memories of pleasant interpersonal connections or achievements may elevate the mood of some stroke survivors. Mood and the level of stress or relaxation have been shown to play a significant role in stroke recovery. Music can be a helpful way to elicit certain positive moods.
Negative effects
Music therapy research studies have not demonstrated negative or harmful effects of music on stroke recovery. And, it is relatively easy for a stroke survivor to express an opinion about music and to choose preferred music, which makes selecting music pieces an easy and pleasant task.
Besides music, other pleasant life experiences, such as caring for a pet or joining a support group, have also been shown to help stroke survivor's recovery. “
